Polymer materials and Engineering

This major cultivates senior engineering and technical personnel with comprehensive moral, intellectual and physical development and professional knowledge and skills of polymer materials and engineering. They can be engaged in basic research, technology development, process and equipment design, production and operation management in the fields of polymer materials synthesis, modification and processing, etc., and have the spirit of innovation and competitiveness.

To improve teaching efficacy, we designed the curriculum structure and training program thoughtfully. In addition to systematically studying basic theories, students must undergo rigorous engineering training. By combining these two aspects, we anticipate that students will be able to design and synthesize polymers, gain more insight into the relationship between the structure and properties, and develop novel polymer materials and explore their new applications. The courses include, but are not limited to, Inorganic and Analysis Chemistry, Engineering Graphics, Physical Chemistry, Engineering Mechanics, Organic Chemistry, Fundamentals of Mechanical Design, Fundamentals of Materials Science and Engineering, Basic Engineering Training, Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Physics, Process of Polymer Synthesis, Polymer Process Principle, Modification of Polymer Materials, Modern Materials Analysis Technique, Chemical Engineering Principle, Research Method of Polymer Materials, Coating and Adhesive, Composite Materials, Engineering Management, and some arts courses.

Graduates of this major are adaptable to broad fields. Almost of them work at the coastal area of mainland China, such as Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangdong. They are qualified for novel product development, manufacturing, and enterprise management positions. These qualifications translate well to the industries of polymer composites, rubber, plastics, and fibers, as well as the service areas of ships, the ocean, aerospace, petrochemical, automobile, electronic, home appliances, building materials, and so forth.
